“I walk in shadows searching for light. Cold and alone, no comfort in sight. Hoping and praying for someone who'll care. Always moving and going nowhere.” These are the words of one our generations greatest poets to be. Her name is Ashley Marie Williams.
Born on October 19, 1989 in Como, North Carolina a great writer was born: full of energy and life.
She never had the best home life but she would learn to make the best out of it,with virtually non-existent father.
“Although it's been 6 years since he came back around, I still find it difficult to trust my father. I feel as though the back child support was the only reason he showed up again, even though he claims otherwise” says Ms.williams, she didn’t let that hinder her from reaching her goals.”
She now attends UNCP, where she works with the schools’ newspaper, although her days can be hectic. She is very family oriented. She insists on staying in contact with her family every day especially her mother which is only fitting since her father whom she refers to as a deadbeat is nowhere to be found.
“My poems are about family, guys, love, and myself. My dad's 11 year absence and being made fun of from Pre-K to 12th grade lead to the way i writing poems and letters. Writing is my own personal "therapy session"” Says Ms.williams.
Working with the paper has reignited her childhood dreams of becoming a published author, writing a poem and a short story every day. She hopes to one day to compile all her writings into a book. Ms.williams might seem like the average college student at times but if you sat down with her you will discover that she’s a big fan of the 1965 cartoon “Tom & Jerry”. You would also notice that she is very soft spoken but a fighter lives within.
